Educator, safety, heroic, strong, provider, protector.
These are only a few of the qualities my dad had when my brothers and I were growing up. I remember the very first time my dad took us all fishing; my mom, my younger brothers, and me. After a little time of sitting in the boat waiting for the fish to bite, my brothers started getting rambunctious and would not sit still. Yes, they were getting really annoying, but I didn’t care. I was sat there, in the boat, waiting for the fish to bite, in peace.
My dad would tell the story but then say that I was the best fisherman. I just remember how much I enjoyed, not only being with my family, but listening to the sound of the birds, listening to the water softly splash against the side of the boat, the gentle rocking of the boat…it was so relaxing to me as a young girl. I knew then that I had fallen in love with nature. It was, and still is to me, so beautiful. Just how God intended it. Thank you, daddy, for giving me this gift of appreciation for the purity of nature.
My dad had an appreciation for nature and wildlife. He was a bird watcher, he knew the different kinds of fish, different kinds of trees and leaves, and he and I had a vegetable garden together. I remember he and I would go out to the garden a pull weeds and harvest our veggies. We also went camping a couple of times when I was a young girl. It wasn’t often because my mom has never been a tent camper which is all we had at the time. As I got older, I had the same issue. Not much of a tent camper anymore, but nonetheless, I do enjoy camping.
Fortunately, I am married to a man who enjoys everything that I do about nature. The peaceful, calming affects that nature blesses us with. My husband and I live in an area surrounded by nature trails where we go for walks and bike rides. We are also close to the “up north” area of Michigan so we will just drive north with really no destination and find a cabin for when we get tired. Actually, there was a time when we were planning on selling just about everything, including our house, purchase a camper and become RVers. We didn’t because everyone had the same idea, especially after the pandemic, so we imagined that it would be difficult to find a campsite anywhere in America. As a result, we are now planning on moving to Tennessee so we can be in the mountains. Yup! Why not take our love for nature to the next level…literally.
Sorry, I tend to go on a tangent. Anywho.
Eventually, I have found that nature has done more for me than just relax and calm me, but it has also done wonders for my anxiety disorder. When I am walking nature trails or just sitting on a bench in a park or laying on the beach, I feel like there is a whole other world out there with no worrying and endless possibilities. Basically, I feel free from stress, worry, the need to control everything, and anything else that comes with anxiety. The peace I feel while listening to the birds, water, trees…just watching and listening to everything nature relieves most issues of my anxiety. It’s very therapeutic for me.
Overall, I wanted to continue reminding myself the way I feel when I’m surrounding myself with the calm, peace and purity of nature through SEH jewelry pieces, and the memory of who introduced me to it all. RIP daddy. I love you.
