To my biggest supporter…Thank you.

Most of us have someone who supports us in all we do in one way or another. Whether it be a parent, sibling, relative, friend, and so on. And the support could be for starting a business, a relationship, a family, new job, and so much more.

My Biggest Supporter

Mom in a gray sun hat outside with trees behind her

Fortunately, I have had that kind of support my entire life, and still do even in adulthood. She has been there for me through my ups and downs, through my trials, errors, and victories. Even when when she knew what my decisions would cost me, she still let me go through it just so I would learn from my mistakes knowing that when I hurt, she hurt. She is my friend and my biggest supporter. She is my mom.

How It All Began

It wasn’t always rainbows and unicorns when my mom was pregnant with me. As some of you can imagine, being 19 years old, unwed and pregnant in the 70’s wasn’t something that was supported. But my mom knew from a young age that she wanted children so no matter what she was going to follow through with her pregnancy with little support from her family. Of course that all changed a few months after I was born. My grandparents adored me and they were the ones who were against my moms pregnancy.

I think it may have been the fact that my mom and I lived with my grandparents until my mom and dad got married when I was around18 months old. During that time I think the three of us (my grandparents, mom and I) grew really close. I know my mom and I have always been close since I was born, but I know I had built a bond with my grandparents while living there as well. So much so that I stayed as week or two with my grandparents every summer. But anyway, back to my mom

 Parenting

Times were definitely different back then. Dads worked while moms could stay home. Well, at least in my family. Since I was already 18 months old at the time of their wedding, my mom and dad discussed that she was going to stay home to raise the kids (which is what she always wanted to do) while my dad worked to provide for his family. To learn more about my dad, check out My Hero blog post.

Growing up, I learned different things from each parent. For instance, working hard and being self sufficient came from my dad, and learning how to be kind, nurturing, and full of life came from my mom. She was also there for us to talk to when we needed guidance. Mom would also let us go through our challenges when we made poor decisions just so we learned what not to do, but she was always there to pick us back up.

Memories

I have so many great memories, and some may sound weird, but they are my memories I cherish. For instance, one of my memories is during the summer, every Thursday, mom would take us to pick up my dads paycheck, take us grocery shopping, go home and unload the groceries, then have lunch together. On the days that weren't Thursday, my mom and I would sit on the couch eating lunch together watching soap operas. Yup! As a kid, during summer break from school, I looked forward to watching soaps with my mom just I could get some quality time with her. This was the highlight of my day.

Another memory is playing outside as a child and smelling the homemade fried chicken and homemade French fries while the windows were open in the springtime. Even to this day I can smell my moms fried chicken and French fries while the windows are open even if she isn't there. I feel so warm and fuzzy inside.

Another memory that stands out to me is wind chimes. Every time I hear a wind chime it reminds me of home; comfort, safety, beauty. The soothing sound was so relaxing, and when my mom and I sat on the porch the chimes would chime and it made us feel happy and calm. Knowing this, my mom bought me wind chimes for my own home and I still feel the same when I hear them chime.

Thank You

Mom, I just want to say thank you for being there for meMom and daughter in the yard at house with trees behind us through my ups and downs, through my trials and tribulations, through my victories and successes, and for still being there for me throughout adulthood. Because of you [and dad], my brothers and I have become kind-hearted, hard working adults who are full of life and love. We don't let anything bring us down or get in our way of achieving whatever we set out to accomplish.

With that being said, thank you, mom, for being my biggest supporter in my business. Even while I was searching for my passion, you were always there for me to discuss ideas, and you also helped me sort out some things when my mind was racing in confusion [due to so many ideas]. Not only are you my biggest supporter, but you are also my cheerleader. I am blessed each and everyday that I have you in my life.

For my final words I just want to say Thank you, mom, and I love you.
